Canada: Lakeport Brewery’s CEO named top entrepreneur

Teresa Cascioli, chair and chief executive officer of Lakeport Brewing Income Fund won the 13th Annual Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Canada's Venture Capital & Private Equity Association on June 01, The Globe and Mail posted June 02.

The award celebrates the achievements of entrepreneurs who lead venture-backed Canadian companies.

"I am so pleased to have received this prestigious award. Venture capital firms are absolutely essential in assisting entrepreneurs build prosperous businesses. VenGrowth Private Equity Partners was instrumental in the successful management buyout of Lakeport back in 2004," said Ms. Cascioli, in a press release.

Using a brazen buck-a-beer pricing model, Ms. Cascioli made Lakeport a major player on the Ontario beer scene. Lakeport produces nine proprietary brands, two of which, Lakeport Honey Lager and Lakeport Pilsener, are among the top-10 selling brands in Ontario.

Lakeport has over 170 full-time employees at its production facility in Hamilton. The brewer went public as an income trust last year in June.

The award was presented at the CVCA annual conference in Vancouver on June 01.
